Goals & Objectives
OBJECTIVES
As a digital media intern for Revolve Solutions some of my objectives and goals included:
-
Supporting video and photography needs
-
Researching and writing stories
-
Developing online and social content
Goal #1
Supporting video and photography needs.
My first goal of supporting the company in their video and photography needs was accomplished over the course of my internship in various ways. One of the main projects I worked on for this company, was to capture and edit footage for a YouTube video. This video was created for a non-profit we work with called ALIVE! This non-profit, dedicated to fighting poverty and hunger in the city of Alexandria, asked our company to create a video providing instructions to their volunteers on truck training and safety. This video was intended to help increase interest in volunteering to drive the trucks carrying the donations and to explain the steps and requirements needed to do so. Another way I assisted in supporting the companies video and photography needs was in documenting the opening of our new office for social media. I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at our new building and took pictures of the event that were used in numerous media outlets and on our websites. The last way I accomplished this goal was in helping a photographer we work with set up a backdrop and scene to take headshots for a government agency. I assisted her by correcting minor flaws in taking the image, such as positioning the subject and adjusting their tie, or hair to obtain a perfect headshot. The idea for this was to have less to do in post production for the photographer.
Goal #2
Researching and writing stories.
Another goal I accomplished during my internship of researching and writing stories was very intriguing. For this goal, I was assigned a research project to discover the history of our new office building and to hopefully find an image of what the building used to look like when it was first built. In completing this project, I started by exploring the Alexandria Library Special Archives Collection, where I discovered most of my clues. I was able to document and write up a catalog of the previous owners of our building dating back to 1924. I contacted numerous previous residents to inquire about the history of the property and to see if they had any images they were willing to provide. This research project was one of my favorite parts of my internship and I learned a lot about the history of Alexandria, King Street, and research that was previously conducted in this area. In concluding my research, I was able to find a good amount of information on the previous residents and their occupations and uses of the building, but there were very few historical images available of the property. The only images I obtained of the property was a sketch of the building, as an advertisement in a newspaper from 1965 and a portion of the building in a picture taken from an angle in 1976. Although it was difficult to find answers to all my questions about the property, the process of investigating and digging up historical documents was very interesting. Another way I accomplished this goal was in creating a spreadsheet of information for the company to easily send out a large amount of emails regarding 508 compliance and audio description accessibility. Revolve Solutions works to assist in providing AD (audio described) videos for people with disabilities and make important information easily accessible to everyone. I organized and documented a large amount of contact information into a spreadsheet, to help the company contact government agencies effortlessly and quickly. In addition to this project, I learned the software used to create AD videos and assisted in creating some for our company.
Goal #3
Developing online and social content.
During my internship this summer, I also accomplished the goal of developing online and social content by creating a large amount of graphics and captions for our social media accounts. I aided my coworker to brainstorm ideas for content creation and collaborated on generating engaging and appropriate visuals for our social media. My coworker created a social media calendar for this year that I was instructed to fill out with graphics I created on Canva that adhered to our company's style guide. Furthermore, I composed captions that enhanced the message of the graphics. I really enjoyed creating numerous graphics for a wide variety of content, it was very engaging and I learned a lot through this process. In addition to creating social media content, I learned how to create animated videos. Learning the software to create these animated videos was frustrating at times but very exciting as well. I really enjoyed practicing with the software because I was able to create a short animated film. Lastly, I created a drawing of our office building for my boss using photoshop, to use in comparing the building now to how the building looked in the past. This project came very easily to me and allowed me to incorporate some of my graphic design skills into this internship.
