Career Development
Working with Revolve Solutions LLC over the summer as a digital media intern has been an amazing and enlightening experience. Not only did I learn new software, and create new media for my portfolio, I was also able to determine what steps I want to take in my future career path. Having this opportunity to be an intern for Revolve has given me new insights and real world experience, outlined in the example below, that I needed to help me excel in my future career. During my internship, I worked with different areas of media and communications. One task I was assigned with was to assist a photographer in conducting a professional photoshoot, to capture headshots for a government agency. This specific job required me to take the metro from our office in Alexandria, VA to the heart of Washington D.C. I really appreciated and enjoyed this because it gave me a view of real world job assignments. The freelance photographer I worked with during this shoot, was very nice and willing to discuss her path to success with me, which I was very appreciative of. During our down time in between capturing headshots for our clients we talked about her passions and how she got to where she is today. A significant takeaway for me from our conversation was to make connections. She insisted she was doing what she loved, in a place she loved, because of all the connections she made. I found this very insightful and accurate, especially working in a big city like D.C. With so many opportunities and people with a wide variety of different jobs surrounding you, it is easy and important to make good friends and connections.
This internship and the assignments I was given during it, made me realize that I do want to pursue a more creative path of communications and utilize my experience and passion for art in my future. I would also love to have an organized schedule of tasks in my future career, to keep me focused and determined to accomplish things. I have taken note of what I want in my profession after this experience, and one thing that is distinctly obvious is that I want to be able to go to work everyday, motivated, and eager to achieve my goals. I felt that way during my internship, and therefore would love to work in a place like this and around like-minded people.
Another aspect of my internship I really enjoyed was the area. Alexandria, Virginia was a very exciting and beautiful place to have my internship. There were so many opportunities and places to explore in the heart of Alexandria and being so close to D.C. was extremely beneficial. I would want to be surrounded by a variety of different occupations and perspectives in my future job, to allow me to make connections and continue to grow my experience.
Overall, this opportunity pushed me out of my comfort zone and required me to adapt to the environment around me. I believe I did a good job of completing my required tasks with enthusiasm and precision. I am now more hopeful and excited for my professional future than ever before, and I cannot wait to begin it.
